　　1993年，LucasArts开发的一款冒险游戏《萨姆和马克斯：开始流浪》（Sam & Max Hit the Road）培养了大批的忠实玩家，玩家在10年后的2003年得到了这款游戏即将开发续作的消息，但是2004年3月，LucasArts宣布《萨姆和马克斯》的续作Sam & Max Freelance Police将被取消。

　　2005年，Telltale Games公布《萨姆和马克斯》单机游戏。点击式冒险游戏《萨姆和马克斯》的原创作者Steve Purcell与Telltale Games协力合作，游戏于2006年上市。

　　2006年，Telltale Games公布了《萨姆和马克斯：首部曲》的试玩。这款游戏是关于一只兔子和一支狗的流浪故事。
